So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth. ~Bahá’u’lláh
On June 28th, the organizer of the VOP’s South Hampton Roads Chapter Teresa Stanley and summer intern Jennifer Peterson traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia for the monthly VOP organizer meeting. Fifteen organizers and leaders from the various chapters of the VOP came together to discuss recent events, share experiences and exchange ideas for upcoming projects.
Primary agenda topics for this month’s meeting included lobbying, tax reform and a potential trip to Washington D.C. A hot topic for this meeting was the VOP’s 15th Anniversary Party, which will be held August 7th, 2010 in Richmond.
Over the past 15 years, the VOP has continued to provide support in communities throughout Virginia by working together to lobby for social justice. It was an extremely powerful experience to sit around a table and engage in a dialogue with the diverse group of VOP leaders from all over Virginia who all are working towards a common goal of helping those members of our community in need. Together, we carry on the tradition of the VOP by standing in support of these people and encouraging or fellow citizens and neighbors to do the same.
The state organizer meetings are truly inspiring, igniting a spark of motivation as the meetings conclude and leaders disperse home. They inspire those that lead VOP chapters to do more, but also inspire leaders to get more members of the community involved and do more. We often get caught up in our own lives but it is easier than one might think to be present for those in need. Contact the VOP team members and get involved in South Hampton Roads today!
