Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope… and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. ~Robert F. This video, conducted last March by Arlington Independent Media, features interviews with South Hampton Roads Chapter Organizer Teresa Stanley and Tim McCartney, an active leader in our chapter and also a member of the Housing Roundable. The Providence Mobile Home Park dilemma that Virginia Organizing has been involved with in recent months is a prime example of how there needs to be changes made in terms of affordable housing options in the Hampton Roads Area. Tim and Teresa speak of attempting to address the problem at the root, at the city level, with hopes of passing a Workforce Housing Ordinance to be recognized in city comprehensive plans. Drawing upon case studies where Northern Virginia cities have successfully dealt with large population densities and increasing need for affordable housing opportunities offers hope for change yet this video lays out how serious this issue is for our community at present .
